Decision pointWhat to establish before purchase
Seller relies on steering-wheel locationCheck the lamp system separately against the destination. Steering position is useful identity information but cannot establish every relevant lighting configuration or acceptance requirement.
Lamp replacement is included in the offerObtain compatible references and a complete installation/setup scope. The buyer needs a supported finished result rather than an available part that merely looks suitable.
Priced lighting function has not been testedKeep it explicitly unconfirmed or arrange an appropriate assessment. Do not let a package name turn an unobserved operating mode into a verified selling benefit.
01

Identify the installed lamps and their history

Request the original-market vehicle details and the actual lamp configuration. Record accessible markings and disclosed replacement or modification information for the provider to review. An exterior resemblance to another X1 cannot settle component identity or compatibility. Use the generation-and-body parts method to make a specific enquiry. Keep left-hand or right-hand traffic suitability separate from steering-wheel location. Before valuing an expensive lighting feature, establish what the candidate actually carries and which claims are supported. A visible lamp does not by itself verify every advertised operating mode or its acceptance in another market.

02

Ask the destination provider about the candidate

Give the responsible provider the actual vehicle and lamp information and request current guidance for the proposed transaction. Ask what assessment, documentation or changes their response covers. Do not claim that a travel setting or menu selection settles every destination requirement. A source-market demonstration answers a different question from local acceptance. Retain the written response with its limits and responsible party. If the provider needs more information, obtain it before approval. A buyer should not commit on the assumption that every imported X1 can use its existing lamps unchanged or that every necessary correction has the same cost.

03

Assess the present components appropriately

Have a competent provider review visible lenses, mounting concerns, relevant warnings and disclosed work within an agreed scope. Illumination in one photograph is a preliminary observation, not a complete function test. Use applicable instructions for a responsible demonstration without exposing other road users to inappropriate lighting. Record conditions and which functions could not be assessed. If the image or operation is abnormal, request diagnosis instead of assigning a part failure remotely. Keep a cosmetic issue distinct from a functional concern so that a neat-looking lamp is not treated as automatically suitable for the actual customer and destination.

04

Review package features one by one

If a particular lighting capability explains the premium, identify the equipment needed and the appropriate assessment method. Keep original options and later changes separate. A seller may demonstrate one mode successfully while another remains untested. The function verification record allows that distinction to remain visible. Where repair requires setup or calibration, ask the responsible provider to identify the scope and completion evidence. Avoid transferring an advertising feature from another market into the sale description. The dealer should know which claim can be supported before presenting the lighting package as included and functional.

05

Quote a complete supported correction

Where changes are necessary, obtain compatible component references and a completed-job scope. Include installation, required setup, relevant checks and the destination assessment agreed by the parties. A cheap lamp with similar appearance is not sufficient evidence of a compatible finished outcome. Keep proposed used, repaired or new replacement options distinct when offered. Compare the ready-for-customer amount with another suitable vehicle instead of treating the source asking price as the full purchase cost. If compatibility or local acceptance remains unresolved, retain that issue rather than assigning a convenient estimate and calling the vehicle ready.

06

State the lighting acceptance and responsibility

Write whether the purchase accepts the present configuration or requires defined work, who carries out that work and what evidence is needed before the agreed stage. Keep lamp identification and applicable guidance with the vehicle file. New offers need delivered-specification checks; used ones add current condition and repair review. A substituted car may require another destination assessment even if its year and model wording look similar. The receiving team needs enough information to reconcile the actual lamps and completed preparation with the approved offer, without a universal claim about all X1 imports or a guarantee beyond the provider's stated scope.

Keep any agreed lighting correction in the final VIN reconciliation so the delivered parts and completed work match the acceptance file.

Before agreeing the purchase

  • Market and actual lamps identified
  • Destination review requested
  • Present condition assessed
  • Priced functions verified
  • Full correction quoted
  • Responsibility retained in acceptance

Buyer questions

Does left-hand drive confirm headlight suitability everywhere?

No. Review the actual lamps separately with the responsible destination provider.

Can a lamp menu setting establish import approval?

Do not assume so. Obtain the assessment and requirements applicable to the identified vehicle and transaction.
